Listen to Debbie tell her story in her own words.
Debbie Hutchins has been working as a Freelance Live Sound Engineer, Tour Manager and Production Manager for over 30 years.
She mixes Live Concert Sound for both Front of House (FOH) (the speakers that the audience hears) and also Monitors (MONS) (the speakers and In-Ear Monitors on stage that the Musicians hear). She may work one specific concert on an evening, or she may go on Tour with an Artist for weeks or months.
She has worked with many Musicians, including Juno and Grammy award winners, such as: Ursula, Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra, Pluto, Maren Ord, Dayna Manning, the Creeggan Brothers, Wide Mouth Mason, Bob Wiseman, Lilith Fair 1999, BNL, Chantal Kreviazuk, Sloan, Melanie Doane, George Fox, Susan Aglukark, Shaye, Sophie Milman, Jann Arden, Jimmy Rankin, Melissa Manchester, Leahy, The Next Generation Leahy, Dan Hill
She currently mixes FOH and works as Tour Manager for David Wilcox and 7 time Juno Award Winner Serena Ryder.
Her gigs have taken her all over North America as well as places such as Mexico, Cuba, the Yukon, England, France and Japan.
Working as a Freelance Technician in the Arts (Live Sound) can be exhilarating, exciting and creatively rewarding. It can also be financially volatile, grueling and unpredictable. The demand for training for new equipment and software is constant.
