Submission Guidelines
We hope you will consider sharing your knowledge and experience through a submission to Provocations: drama and dance in education.
Provocations aims to stimulate lively conversations and critical thinking about drama and dance education, and arts-infused teaching and learning strategies. Contributions that profile action research and teacher and student inquiry are most welcome.
We are also interested in pieces that are focused on pedagogical strategies of major interest to educators of all instructional levels. Provocations invites commentary, creative expression, and well-considered ideas in various forms: articles, poetry, visual arts, film, photography, etc. Provocations also provides a platform for student voice; we invite you to consider submitting student thoughts, reflections and creative expressions.
Provocations' audience consists of educators, K- post-secondary, who want to learn more about effective teaching techniques, share their own classroom discoveries and research, and have a platform for interacting with others.
Every issue of Provocations will include the following featured components:
Soliloquy (editorial): 500-1,000 words
Folio (articles, stories): 1,000 and 4,000 words
Cue2Cue (book & resource reviews): 600-1,000 words
Touchstone (reflections, poetry, imagery): up to 3 poems or images; written reflections up to 600 words or two-minute audio recordings. Original art works should include an artist statement of approximately 50 words.
Criteria
Submissions are reviewed by three reviewers, using the following criteria:
Alignment with our mission and vision statement
Adherence to submission guidelines (e.g. length, font, format, etc. )
Provocation: provokes thought and/or feeling; challenges teaching practice; disrupts status quo
Relevance to drama and dance teachers
Innovation- demonstrates innovative instruction/assessment practices; proposes a new pedagogical approach or practice
Reflects creative and critical thinking/processes; critical consciousness
Provides a model or exemplar for teaching drama and/or dance in the classroom
Clarity of meaning
Impact: is the piece compelling to the reader/viewer (e.g. visual interest, strong prose, originality, creative expression)
Accuracy of conventions- spelling, grammar, etc.
Format & Style Requirements
Submissions will include:

Bio (200 words) and photo
Manuscripts: include an abstract (100-150 words)
Media: photos, artworks, illustrations , video or audio files are attached/uploaded to the Submission Form.

1” margins on all sides

Submissions must follow the guidelines of the American Psychological Association 7th Edition, 2020, American Psychological Association,7th Edition, 2020.

Multimedia
When including video, audio or imagery within an article, be sure to use web-optimized formats, e.g. y=YouTube, vimeo, quick time, etc. Embed hyperlinks (text or still image) within the body of the article.
When submitting video, audio or imagery as stand-alone files for inclusion in the Touchstone section of the journal, provide a text or image link.
When submitting video files, please provide a text link or still frame from the video in the article.
Upload/attach all media files to the submission form.
Permission and Copyright Protection:
When submitting video, audio, or imagery files, you must ensure that you have permissions for inclusion and have submitted copies of signed permissions prior to publication.
Include signed permissions of all individuals appearing in photos or video.

Length
The journal is organized into the following 5 sections, and the length of contributions for each section have been determined as outlined below. You are welcome to state your preference of section, but final decisions are at the discretion of the editorial board.

Additional Considerations and Requirements:
A call for submissions will be released six months prior to each publication, with a deadline of 3 months in advance of the release date. Provocations also maintains an open call for submissions, for consideration in upcoming editions.
Submissions must be current and newly developed for this publication. Creative modalities of expression are welcome.
We accept a wide range of forms, styles and formats including, but not limited to, articles, video-recorded or written interviews, stories, illustrations, photos, zines, audio recordings, etc.
Student work is welcome, with verification of permissions.
All submissions must include a brief summary of content (50-100 words).
Illustrations, graphics, photos, are welcome additions to manuscripts. Quality and resolution must be sufficiently high for publication (typically at least 300 dpi), and photo credits must be included.
English, French and multilingual submissions are welcome. Manuscripts should be submitted as Word documents and formatted following APA-7 style guidelines.
Please note that all accepted submissions may be edited. Edits will be returned to authors for consideration and approval prior to publication. If substantive revisions are required, you will be provided with detailed feedback.
All submissions will be acknowledged with a return email within two weeks of receipt.
